Track Meet Results
I tried to post on this a minute ago, but it got lost in transit or something. So I'll leave out the parts where I tried to be funny. They probably weren't anyway :)
The ladies' team got around 25, mens' around 10. As this is our first year and we're a club team, this isn't as bad as it may sound. (Then again to those of you who don't know how track meets are scored, it won't sound like anything at all.) What we need is people in all the events, preferably multiple people. We have that in a few, particularly the middle distance events, since the core of the track club right now is the cross-country team, but in many of the events (jumps, hurdles, shot, javelin, discus) we don't have anyone. (At least not who came to the first meet.) We do have one girl who's really good at pole vault (she placed second), and she's stirring up interest among others. I guess that's a start.
As for my own performance, let's just say I don't like indoor and I'm still out of shape. 9 1/2 laps for the 1500, 18 3/4 for the 3000. My times convert to about 5:45 for a mile, 12:40 for the 3200. In the 1500, I was second-to-last and in the 3000 I was last among the guys and outclassed enough to be running against the clock. That was a long 18 laps, I'll tell you. Being lapped 5 times wasn't fun either.
I'm quite sore, rather tired. But I feel optimistic - I may yet break 5 this season in the mile. All I need to do is start upping my mileage. It's at least two weeks to our next (and last) meet, so it's possible. After that, then road races, and then a little rest, then summer training for x-c in the fall...
