i, admittedly, use hyperbole
Yes, Jared, video games, speaking of the medium in general, are misunderstood. And they may not be destroying the youth of America. I know you, at least, are an intelligent and articulate individual. However, when I see the kind of language that people use on forums such as Battle.net, which even the creator of Red vs. Blue described as looking like "someone had puked all over the keyboard," then I think that the social isolation that video games create for many people is having a negative effect on society.
I'm a stout Aristotlean - everything in moderation. Video games, for whatever reason, people seem largely unable to play in moderation. Now I admit I've played my share of Worms Armaggeddon, X-Com Apocalypse, Total Annihilation, Deus Ex, etc. in my day. However, it wasn't all I did. For some people I see around this campus, video games seem to be their lives. And that's a bad thing, despite what the author of Everything Bad is Good for You may say.

Unless, of course, you're a professional player or journalist... *grins*
