a lenten devotion

Luke's entry reminded me: I need one if I'm indeed going to the Ash Wednesday service at St. Mary Mag's tonight. I've never been to an Ash Wednesday service before. I've wanted to become closer to the early Christians with regard to Lent for a while now, however.

Instead of giving up alcohol, which would mean that I couldn't enjoy the pubs anymore while I'm over here (except for on Sundays, of course), I think I'm going to add something instead. I'm going to try reading in 4 places or so in Scripture each night instead of two: I'm thinking Psalms, OT general, Gospels, and Epistles. I'll also try actually praying while I'm still conscious instead of while I'm just drifting off to sleep.

Thanks Evan. I enjoy being a part of lent but i just could not think of anything to give up this year. Everything I thought of was an object that I need to give up for my health not for my renewal of faith. It is good to remember that this is a season of giving something not giving up on something.

I find it nice to read Psalms on Sundays.

it is faith that taking our grubby hands off what we WANT

(not what we hate anyway)

will finally make us full.

i'd forgotten.
