talkin' about my generation...

So who am I, really? Born on June 15, 1984, I sit almost exactly on the cusp of generations - stuck between Gens. X & Y; between adolescence and adulthood. Wikipedia's article on what they call Twixters makes me fear for my (economic) future - independence before 25, full stability before 30, that's my goal. But, right now, the thread has not been fully cut - I still receive money from my parents, and thus the description of the Boomerang Generation rings too true.

Does anyone know a good career counselor? I need to know how to market myself. My anxiety about the future fluctuates - right now, I'm still feeling better than I did when I was job hunting over the summer. But I'm not feeling as confident in my chances for future lucrative employment (in contrast to my present position of dependency while doing national service) as I once was.

I think I need certification in a technical field. That'll help a great deal.

hmmmmm.

I don't know what kind of job you are looking for (I know we've talked about it, and you've written about it), but like, if you want a job for like a year or so, sometimes temp agencies can help. There are different kinds of temp agencies. I went to two of them on Thursday. The first one I was actually applying to work at the agency itself, and it mainly employed laborers--industrial, construction, etc. The person there referred me to another temp agency which dealt with people who had college degrees and other skills. They mainly hired out people, and I think those people many times would end up working at the company they started at as temps. For that one I'm going to an interview on Monday (they do that instead of an application). So, you might try a temp agency.

Reading about the twixters (I don't think I will necessarily be one--I may not marry until later, if I do marry at all, but other than that I'm pretty much not one) and the internet generation, etc, if I do marry and have children I definitely want to raise them outside the US, away from the dependence on media and internet that I see here that disturbs me.

Technology just sometimes disturbs me.
