more itunes lovin', including the revelatory "in c"

I rewarded myself today (which was payday) by buying several more albums from iTunes - it's so easy, they're like candy. They were: In C (25th anniversary concert) by Terry Riley (one of the fathers of minimalism), Kind of Blue by Miles Davis, Feels by Animal Collective, Transfiguration of Vincent by M. Ward, and In the Reins - EP by Iron & Wine/Calexico. So now I have some of the albums which carried me through Oxford, ready to carry me into 2007.

I'm excited about all of them, but I'm especially excited about delving into In C, since it's so simple, yet so complex. I'm sure Sarah could tell us more about it, but for now, here's a look at the score, although this in itself won't tell you how the piece sounds or even how to go about rendering it in performance. I like the freedom that modern composers give to performers of their work; it's almost a return to musical practice before the period of classical Western harmony.

Also today, I edited the Augustine article on Wikipedia a bit, though it's still got serious room for improvement. Math topics are covered so much better in WP than humanities ones, it's not even funny. And, of course, at least 90% of edits on WP are either minor ones (i.e., proofreading, adding trivia or link cruft to the bottom of articles), or else are reversions of vandalism. Yet, somehow, things have still managed to substantially improve from last year. Slowly, slowly, we're pushing to 1.0....
